Dear all,
Cinnamon[1] is a 'gnome-shell' fork and it's becoming the main Desktop
of Linux Mint. Currently it's composed of only 3 packages:
* cinnamon - the shell
* cinnamon-settings - a GUI configuration utility for cinnamon
(gnome-shell has 'gnome-tweak-tool', cinnamon has cinnamon-settings)
* muffin - cinnamon's window manager
I would like to maintain a LiveCD spin off from 'Cinnamon' from
openSUSE 12.2 onwards having in consideration the following:
* An official LiveCD for Cinnamon (which on a later stage 12.2+n
would introduce also MATE);
* Introduce a higher customization level to meet the demands of our
users and answer the calls for improved image;
* Introduce a different set of default applications, for example:
- drop Firefox and introduce Google Chrome as default browser;
- add gwibber to the default patter;
- drop useless crap like liferea (use chrome apps) and a few others;
- default install with gconf-editor and dconf-editor
- improved GDM screen
- introduce emoK (a fork from mint's welcome screen, previously
'tirpitz' and renamed to emoK to answer the call for blood against
'tirpitz', emoK stands for "Emo Kids", yes, it's meant to be cinical
:))
- This spin will have it own artwork set and it's meant to be
visually different from the traditional openSUSE spins, it's more
work... sure... I'll find artists or pick artwork from other sources
and package it myself... It's imperative it gets it's own visual image
and identity for success.
The main goal is to provide an alternative option that can bring new
users to openSUSE (mainly desktop moders, hype/trend wannabes and
people who seek a different experience), reinforce and strengthen up
our GNOME user base at least to 60% of openSUSE users so we can then
make a claim to other things.
- Will this pose a problem to anyone?
- What do I need to do to secure that this spin will happen?
NM
