The description of MATE (from their own readme) makes me laugh.... "MATE Desktop Environment, a non-intuitive and unattractive desktop for users, using traditional computing desktop metaphor." MATE is not Gnome2... so my comment still stands :-) Gnome2 is museum fodder now. I hope that MATE is a successful project.
