Hi all,

I would like to consult this mailing list regarding the possibility of
running a project in OBS with a single goal: Provide a full working
Mono repository for RHEL6 and superior. As many would ask why I
wouldn't contribute to the current Mono repository, simple enough:

* Upstream is involved in the current Mono repository, and I can't
say I like their packaging;
* I require more freedom to implement the packages following Fedora
EPEL packaging rules;
* I only want to build for RHEL6 and superior, I don't care if RHEL4
still have 2 more years of lifetime, and RHEL5 a few more;

Why do it on OBS?

* Because it's a platform I love and I'm somehow familiar with it;
* Because Red Hat won't provide Mono stuff;
* Because we can serve RHEL, CentOS and Scientific Linux;
* Because I want to serve Banshee for RHEL6+ as well, and thus I can
extend the packages required by Banshee to a full Mono repository;
* Because I want to enable MonoDevelop for personal usage and I want
to have control over the process;
* Because before anything else I see myself as a openSUSE community
volunteer contributor;
* Because we do it better in openSUSE!

I don't really care about the namespace involved, anything will work.
I'd rather do it from the scope of openSUSE/OBS, then do it for one of
the existing repositories like RPM Forge and friends;

Will this be possible to accomplish ? A simple "Yes" or "No" will do.
No need to feed drama's. If anyone else has some interest and wants to
follow the Guidelines (Fedora/EPEL), help is welcome, 4 hands work
faster than 2, and 2 heads think better than 1, plus OBS is all about
collaboration, right ?

Thanks in advance,
NM
