If such a list have existed, we could have discussed the present case completely, without the risk for anybody to have the net unvail the names and the facts. The board could have explained all the situation.

You couldn't have prevented it. With 500 members, someone would have copied the list messages to the directly affected person and someone in the media. At the least the open discussion ensures that people who care can read both sides of the discussion rather than relying on edited excerpts.
