I believe it violates the use policy of the free studio to put
commercial software on the appliances, but ...
No, for Studio it doesn't make a difference, what kind of software to put on
the appliance. Studio is just the tool here. You can put commercial software
on your appliances, if you like.
You have to comply to licenses and other constraints of distribution and the
software you put on it, though. But that's not any different from doing it
without Studio.
