Am election period is the length of time that people may vote in a specific election. Using that term states that you may vote for a candidate at any time between january one and december 31. On other words, voting is never-ending under that language. An ambiguity. It may be more clear if it said: Elections are held annually (in December). There may be ad-hoc elections as necessary between the annual elections.
