The only way OpenSUSE can ever be safe from the whims of the accountants and
financiers is to become independent of any single large corporate sponser.
I don't see it happening ... so uncertainty is the prevalent reality ....
What large open source project is actually independent of a large (or
multiple) corporate sponsor? OpenOffice.org has Oracle, Ubuntu has
Canonical, openSUSE has Novell and so on. There are a few
single-application projects that may bumble along on their own, but
it's a rare animal the size and scope of openSUSE that is actually
independent.
