I agree ... market share is a measure of popularity (whether your productis
liked and appreciated by your intended "consumers").
I'd prefer to make a good one rather one that gets the most users.
I didn't say "most users". As with any strategy you have to define your
target market - who your desired consumers are.
Your "good" may not be someone else's "good". Again, this needs to be clear
in the strategy. If, say, reliability is a measure of "good" for the target
market, then that's part of the plan for gaining popularity / use /
consumers / users in the chosen group.
Even if we decide that "we" (the self-selected community) are the target
market, we still need to define some quality measures.
