- Countdown banner for openSUSE Comminity Week How about creating a countdown banner for openSUSE Comminity Week as we did for the release of 11.1. http://counter.opensuse.org/11.1/small.en.png I don't know exactly how I can create such a banner, but IIRC, Pascal created the one for the release of 11.1. If we have such a countdown banner, don't you think we can spread the word all over the web with it ? @Pascal
I remember you worked on preparing counter.o.o for the release of 11.1. http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse-marketing/2008-10/msg00043.html
Can we create a new counter banner or image for the 'Week' and put it somewhere on counter.o.o ?
Mmmmyeah, we could :)
What we'd need to do is: - update the three PNGs for the background, which currently contain "11.1" - if we want translations, we need to collect them from somewhere (either this list or poke on opensuse-translation@, they're very helpful there) -- not sure we absolutely need translations though
I made a first hack (Jimmac made the original background, my inkscape and designer skills are near 0 ;)):

I'm not sure I really like it like that, the upper part is too packed with text. And I'd also need to do more inkscape hacking for the medium and small sized ones. Of course, if our designer hero can come up with something better... :D (but please with similar bounding boxes, or I have to adapt a lot of metrics in the script that renders the "n days to go" part)
I put the image on the top of my User Talk page as a test: http://en.opensuse.org/User_talk:HeliosReds I also found the upper part is too packed with text. I don't have designer skills either, but, why don't you take the plunge and cut the date from upper part like: openSUSE Community Week Then, make bottom part like: 2009.04.20-26 n <- large letter days to go
Not 100% sure about all the translations either, some of them were translations of "n days until available", which doesn't work for Community Week.
Certainly. Japanese translation for 11.1 release doesn't work for Community Week. IMHO, English version is just enough for this time, because we don't have so much time to collect translations and I think we should give preference to spreading the word over making multilingualized images.
What text should be shown instead of the "Out now!" that is used for distro versions ?
Although I'm not a native English speaker and don't know they sound good or not, how about: (is) now open ! or (is) running ! And, I think we need to prepare the pattern for 'After the Week' like: is over till next time... ... All those are just my opinions and I hope some other much better proposals would be posted. ;-)
Once we're OK with the design, I'll push it on counter.o.o (with updates every hour).
After that, I hope the image will be shown on somewhere in Welcome page of the Wiki.
