Moin,
with openFate we have now a tool in place which should enable more community people to participate directly to the creation of openSUSE.
Currently we are at the beginning of using openFate and are gathering information and experience to make openFate and its usage as efficient as possible. Therfore we propose to set up a team of people engaged in openFate to help maintain movement in openFate and to enhance openFate where necessary.
What comes in to my mind are things like:
- add documentation (how to use openfate, explain the process etc.) - feature screening (does a feature lack important information, find duplicates etc.) - define the process on how to handle features - call for feature voting in a certain period to make clear which features are of high importance for the community - find areas where openFate should be improved - find people implementing features
Please let me know if you're interested or add yourself to the participant list on http://en.opensuse.org/OpenFate_screening_team and I'll set up a first meeting soon to discuss what's needed. At least for the beginning I see opensuse-project the right place to talk about openFate.
Best Michael
PS: Don't miss Thomas's talk about openFate on Sunday 2:15pm at FOSDEM (talks will be recorded), http://en.opensuse.org/FOSDEM

Michael,
Thanks for creating this great process that seems to exemplify not only transparency but also real community participation and involvement. I've added myself to the list to observe and see what I can do to help out the openFATE project.
I think its very important to be sure to send out a strong signal to the community before the first meeting that openFATE will be listened to and that the community won't feel like its just a bucket to drop ideas into that never get taken up on. Fully agreed. With openFate we offer another possibility to influence

Compared to the feature whishlist in the wiki (which I need to admit is more like a feature bucket with too little attention) openFate is our tool every engineer, project manager, product manager etc. is working with. So getting features into openFate there is already a big step in direction to get the feature reviewed. With the voting in openFate we have a tool which should give the community a loud voice. Best M
That will hopefully generate real buy-in by the community. You and I both know that's always a challenge to see people excitedly step up with great expectations and then be less present as things move forward. I want to see openFATE succeed as much as you do.
Looking forward to the success of openFATE!
