Rebuilding newer versions for older distributions is in a way a security
update service. One might need to update his config files or get used to
a slightly different behavior, but it plugs security holes. E.g. for
someone using a 10.0 at home for web broswing and reading mail with
Firefox and Thunderbird, Wolfgang's mozilla project might be a good
enough update service. Better than nothing at least.

So there are volunteers already :), they don't cover the whole code base
of course...
