I'm currently doing same project to build a distro based on openSUSE
(or remastering openSUSE to include some additional software or
updated driver). You can also joined opensuse-kiwi mailing list (and
opensuse-factory, off course). Kiwi project [0] provide interesting
article about remastering openSUSE.
