Single user mode will prompt for root password, because init spawns
/sbin/sulogin. init=/bin/sh just starts sh.
Given that every single "Welcome to root!" howto or faq answers how to
recover lost root passwords, I think knowledge of init=/bin/sh is pretty
ubiquitous.
