One of Ubuntu's strong points as I understand is the fact that it has packages for "everything" and they all can be installed easily with apt-get.
SUSE has made a great step towards "everything" with Build Service, there are now a lot of nice repositories there with cool stuff.
But it's still difficult to install software from the Build Service repositories. First, you need to browse the site, then figure out the repository link, go to YaST and add it there.
The community delivers this to a certain degree already: Package search: http://benjiweber.co.uk:8080/webpin/ Add most common repos with a few clicks: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=43378 Benjamin is working on adding functionality to install packages to his already great package search afaik.
