Hi, I'm trying to learn glade. autogen.sh failed on my first try; giving the error below: ./configure: line 4068: syntax error near unexpected token `PACKAGE,' ./configure: line 4068: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(PACKAGE, $pkg_modules)' Then i learned that i had to install pkgconfig; i did so; but this time autogen gave the following error: checking for gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0... Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gtk+-2.0' found configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. How do i have to set PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable? Thanks in advance.

Task manager substitution (SuSE 8.2)

Hello In order to help recent converts from microsoft, I've been looking into a graphical program to allow process monitoring and manipulation. Does anyone know of a "pretty good" program with GUI that would allow one to monitor performance and effect kill commands to running processes? I downloaded gPS from tucows and I'm in the middle of compile-hell. Should I continue down this path or is there something else out there? TIA & cheers <rant> Why would gtk-devel not be part of gtk sources? Who in their right mind go through all the trouble to compile gtk libraries unless they were "developers" also? <!rant>

gprof and call to functions in system libraries

Hi, how to make gprof detect calls to functions in system libraries, such as malloc, pthread_XXX, getexecname, etc.? Suggestions on video and sound programming tips

Hello, I'd like to design simple audio and video playback routines for an application. I've a digital signal acquired through an A/D that I'd like to play as sound. Also I'd like to draw the signal on a window that can be streamed through a video card with a TV output (to look like an oscilloscope.) If there is anybody here, working on audio or video programming, I'd like to know if you have suggestions on how to get started. E.g. audio libraries, video libraries, video cards supported under linux, etc. Thanks. -- Rafael

I'm loosing memory. .. . .

Hello all, (all this is happening on a Suse 7.3 machine 2.4.10 kernel) I am trying to debug an application that is eating memory, I've been using memprof and efence but no luck so far. The really weird thing is that the memory eaten by the program is not released after killing the program. Judging from a few articles i found this should mean that it is shared memory, however, we don't explicitly use shared memory. What i see is that if the program is running and i start 'top' the total amount of memory used is growing but there is no task that is using a lot of memory after a while. In the long run our program stops to function due to memory shortage, the only way out is a reset. memprof doesn't indicate anything. efence doesn't indicate errors. All calls to malloc and free are in a wrapper that makes tracking allocation easy from within the program. (wrappers are well tested). So what happens to my memory ?? Problem with a C union

Here it is my code: union sockaddr46 { sockaddr_in sockv4; sockaddr_in6 sockv6; }; and here it is what I get: prova.c:16: error: parse error before "sockaddr_in" prova.c:16: warning: no semicolon at end of struct or union prova.c:17: warning: data definition has no type or storage class (the file is called prova.c) If I cancel the sockaddr and I put 2 int in there, everything works fine. What am I doing wrong? Praise ps: using suse 8.2

glade on suse 8.2 personal version

Hi, Been hit hard from the hurricane over here, just got power back from thursday (!!). Many people aren't supposed to get power here til friday. Anyways, got Perl's Gtk2 to work, so I wanted to use glade and... get cracking. After I place any item on a window, I can't resize it with the Packing tab, because there is ~nothing~ in the packing tab. I can't draw the item on the window either, since as soon as I click, it places the item full on the window. Any idea what I'm doing wrong or what could be wrong in general?

Getting Perl Gtk2 to work on suse 8.2

(For Glade2, I'm thinking maybe it's easier to reinstall the whole thing?) For Perl Gtk2, it requires pkg-config... which doesn't come with suse 8.2. So I downloaded and installed from Ximian's suse 8.2 rpm. But this doesn't create the .pc files. I'm hoping not to have to do this manually.
