Hi, I'm trying to learn glade. autogen.sh failed on my first try; giving the error below: ./configure: line 4068: syntax error near unexpected token `PACKAGE,' ./configure: line 4068: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(PACKAGE, $pkg_modules)' Then i learned that i had to install pkgconfig; i did so; but this time autogen gave the following error: checking for gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0... Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gtk+-2.0' found configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. How do i have to set PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable? Thanks in advance.

is read() evil in usermode?

Hi, I am writing, done actually, a littl app that carries on a few things that I ask it to do. There is a point where I need my app to wait till I press any key so it can keep moving. I tried with getchar, even doing fflush(stdin) first, but the app goes right throught it, it seems like something forces a bypass over getchar, so I decided to try read() and wait for 1 character. It works great.. but is it elegant and convenient to use a system call for a usermode app ? Shouldnt I use a library wrapper? What glibc function should I use to wait for a return(enter) or any other key to be pressed? This is C. Thanks, Raul

Gcc 3.3

Hi, I have a problem with sources that used to compile with previous versions of gcc: char[] = " Its a sample Of compiling a Char array"; It used to compile with previous version, now it complains with "no matching " ending found"(something like that). I managed to edit the source and changed to: char[] = "its a sample" "of compiling a" "char array"; This time, the compiler did not complain, but I don't know if it is the answer, and I can't modify lots of old source code. Is there any switch to pass the compiler so it recognizes this old behavior, and I can compile old code? Thanks in advance for any help...

If >you've got lots of code, a script to fix it all should be fairly easy. You were right. It was on the release notes. Never thought it was going to change. But when I said lots of code, I didn't mean it was my code. I recently downloaded alsa 0.93, and I saw the same thing. Also I downloaded vdkbuilder, and had the same problem. So I think I can have lots of problems with old code, and not so old too. Thanks!!

GCC 3.3 release packages for SuSE Linux 8.2 available

I'm glad to announce that packages for the released GCC 3.3 are available for SuSE Linux 8.2. To gain a bigger Audience, we would invite you to download and test these packages. The packages are not available as regular YOU updates but rather under /pub/people/pthomas. Here is the the preliminary SDB article that'll go public next week: SuSE packages for the released GCC 3.3 _________________________________________________________________ 3.3 packages available: SuSE Linux 8.2 shipped with a prerelease version of GCC 3.3. Now that GCC 3.3 has been officially released ( see the [4]official announcement), we now also provide packages for SuSE Linux 8.2. How to use https ?

Dear my friends... I want to use "<input type="password" ...>" HTML tag. But I am affraid that somebody taps my password. So I want to use https instead of http. I want the users type their password into the input tag through https. But I don't know how to implement that. My homepage is on a server of a webhosting company. Is it only like this," <a href="login.php:810">Click here to do login</a> "? Build error because of "-lz"

Hi, when I'm building a package, I got this error: gcc -g -O2 -o .libs/example1 example1.o ../../src/.libs/libsimgrid.so \ -lpthread /usr/lib/libxml2.so -lz -lm -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/local/lib \ /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/3.3/../../../../i486-suse-linux/bin/ld:\ cannot find -lz collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I'd like to know if this is because I'm missing some packages/settings before I contact the maintainer? SRPMS recompile

Hi there, I have problems recompiling several SRPMS packages. Basically, all SRPMS containing the %fillup_prereq, %insserv_prereq, %suse_version macros in their SPEC files. Questions are: where are these macros defined (I mean, which RPMS) and which tool(s) parse(s) and/or interpret(s) these macros? some problems with recursive automake

Hi, I have some problem with recursive automake works. Here's the project directory structure: testauto/ build/ config/ src/ main.c hello.h hello.c Makefile.am Makefile.am configure.in Basically, main.c includes hello.h and will be linked to hello.c. The content of testauto/Makefile.am is: SUBDIRS = src The content of testauto/configure.in is: AC_INIT(testauto, 1.0, [me(a)my.machine.com], testauto) AC_CONFIG_SRCDIR(src/hello.c) AC_CONFIG_AUX_DIR(config) AC_SUBST(builddir, build) AC_PREFIX_DEFAULT(/tmp/testauto) AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE AC_PROG_CC AC_CONFIG_FILES([Makefile src/Makefile]) AC_OUTPUT And the content of testauto/src/Makefile.am is: bin_PROGRAMS = testauto testauto_SOURCES = main.c hello.c hello.h INCLUDES = -I$(top_builddir) -I$(top_srcdir) Then, I run aclocal, automake -ac, autoconf, configure, and make. When I run make, it first run "config/missing --aclocal-1.7". AFAIK, this will require aclocal. How can I make "make" does not need to run "missign -aclocal"? Am I missing something? One more questions: I've set $(builddir) to directory "build", but all *.o and the binary "testauto" are still put in directory "src"? -- -- Verdi March --
