Hi all,
I would like to announce the foundation of an association in Debrecen,
Hungary, which has the goal to promote commercial Un*x versions and open
source Un*x-like operating systems and their development environments in
the hungarian higher education.
We have a collection of older computers such as IBM RS/6000 7025 F50,
IBM AS/400 9406 Model 600, IBM AS/400 9402 Model 400, HP9000, Digital
Alpha and some SUN machines. We do continue the purchase of discontinued
stuff as our budget lets it do and permanently looking for non-x86
architecture computers (PPC, Alpha, MIPS etc.).
For the moment we have the support of the local university and most of
our members are students who wants more than C#.NET and Delphi.
Our other goal is to give some support to open source projects such as
developpment for Linux PPC and testing pre-release (Betas and release
candidates) versions.
Our beginning projects are a kernelspace cluster implementation study on
a BSD version (preferably on OpenBSD 3.8) and AS/400 RPG400
self-instruction group.
We are currently negotiating the integration of our activity into the
university's educational program. Just to note: until now there was no
possibility to study this kind of operating systems here. And this is
only a beginning of the cooperation.
If you have some idea how to make our initiative more interesting for
students don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Andras Csepinszky aka vakvarju
UnixLab Association, Debrecen, Hungary
Chairman
PS: our homepage: http://unixlab.bsd.hu hungarian only, but we'll make
an English/French translation soon.
