am I hacked ?

Hi, I got some problems (disk access denied, bus errors,...) that led me to go into single user mode and fsck my partitions. I noticed then that there were some directories created in the tmp directory, called "dev" and "etc", and one file in the / directory called "success" with 0 length. At reboot, these files disapeared. Does anybody know if this could be a sign of a hacked computer ? I mean could someone have installed a rootkit or some such ? I'm not paranoid but this indeed seems strange. Hi there, I'm sorry for sending you this query maybe you can help since I cant find any info elsewhere, Ive installed suse 10.0 on a b50 all is well there. The problem I have is that I've set up another b50 With fedora 5 but I have a garbled screen problem. I was wondering if I can copy xorg.conf from suse and apply it to fedora. Once again sorry ..

Hi all, we are glad to announce that the POWER team at SuSE was able to join the OpenSuSE development! With Beta3 we start to make available CD ISOs on OpenSuSE.org: http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Download#Development_Build As we were invited to join at short notice, not everything is in a status we would like to have it. Hi. My name is Michael, I'm a newbe at Linux on PPC (Got various distro's up and running on X86)..... Since I am first and foremost a Mac OS X user, i am spoiled with the ease of idiot proof installations.. Please forgive me if i ask 'Newbie" style questions. i have a spare Blue & white power Macintosh G3 (400mhz) i got off of ebay for $ 50.00 just to play around with. I was really happy with the announcement thaT SUSE BETA 10 was released for PPC, so I thought I would give it a try. I got the 1st CD to boot, and the GUI installer to run.... It runs well until it gets to reformatting & Resizing partitions. i am giving Suse a whole 160 Gig hard drive to play with.. (sdb) ... Well it will choke on formating & resizing... then proceed to begin install and locks up 1/4 through .. I am sure the lock up is from the unsuccessful fromat/partition. Can some one help me with a clue here ? I have been successful in getting Debian and Mandrake to format/ partition, so it seems to lie within SuSE. thanks, Michael...

Stalker's CommuniGate Pro& SLES 9

Hello, I have installed Stalker's CommuniGate Pro software on a SLES 9 LPAR. When I tell CommuniGate Pro to authenticate using OS passwords it does so for local accounts. However, if I turn on LDAP users (using YaST), it will not authenticate OS users. LDAP users can sign onto the OS fine. Does anyone know what the fix for this is? Switching p655's and a p690 to SuSe?

Hi folks. We have 7 p655's with 8 CPU's and 1 p690 with 32 CPU's. These machines are linked with a 1 gigabit, low-latency switch for MPI computations using a switch from IBM called an "SP2 switch", AKA a "Colony switch". We're currently running AIX 5.1. IBM is telling us that AIX 5.3 will never support our SP2 switch, so our upgrade path seems to have disappeared shortly after purchasing the equipment. Is there any possibility of SuSe for pSeries supporting this hardware effectively, especially the SP2 switch (now or in the future)? Would we have to toss the SP2 switch and go with (much higher latency) gigabit ethernet, or myrinet or something for our MPI computations? How's the SMP support on pSeries? Is it up to handling 32 CPU's well yet? One of the reasons the guy with the grant money for this compute cluster wanted AIX, was for the AIX compilers - so I need to ask: Will SuSe for pSeries be able to use xlc/xlC/xlf/xlf90/xlf95 and such? Also, is loadleveler available for SuSe on pSeries? That's the queuing system we're using now, and it's also the queuing system many of the freely redistributable climatology programs we need are written to work with... Thanks!
