George, to answer your question.. postgres is similar to Microsoft Access..
or Oracle..or mySQL.. or mssql server. its relational database management
system (mysql is not..but thats a whole 'nother thread ;). I barely know
anything about FileMaker pro, but I think its a db system that has its own
language.. which is similar to sql based databases such as postgresql. the
db engines differ.. but most are based around the same language --SQL.. and
each adds its own flair to the language..
