I have a MacAlly (Mac) Swiss-French keyboard. What's that, mac-chfr, mac-ch-fr..??

Are the keymaps all screwed, "8" gives "Return"?
You could boot with "init=/bin/bash rw" and edit the variable KEYTABLE
in /etc/rc.config, put "mac-us" in it for a start. What do you have
there right now?
