VGA setting

Hi, I am using the SuSE 7.1 Linux with a Power Mac G3, 128 MB Ram, BootX Version 1.2b3. If I boot into the 2.2.18 Kernel the VGA mode is OK ( like I am used from the MAC side ( 1024*768). If I use the 2.4.2 Kernel ( compiled by myself or the one from the SuSE CD) the VGA mode is wrong ( 640*480). I tried to use the More Kernel argument option on BootX Version 1.2b3 "vga=extended" but there is no reaction. Does anybody have an idea how to set the video mode in the kernel? I somehow got stuck with the SAX2 programm. I dont know if this is the right aproach. Thanks for your help. Alfred Mutscheller(a)T-online.de

Patch to fix support for PNIC_II in tulip driver

Hi, Attached is the patch that fixes support for the Lite-On PNIC_II for the tulip driver on my machine for kernels 2.4.X. So if you are using a NIC that includes the Lite-ON PNIC_II (LC82C115) please give this a try. This includes some AsanteFast 10/100 cards that run under both Mac OSX and PPC Linux. Specifically the AsanteFast 10/100 with Part Number: 61-20590-01 uses this chip and this is the card all testing was done for. Special thanks to Jeff Garzik for answering some questions and providing the PNIC_II datasheet and the datasheet of the Intel/DEC 21143 which it is similar to. Without those docs, I would have been lost for sure. NOTE: This patch is just being submitted with this e-mail and therefore has *NOT* yet been accepted by Jeff (the official tulip driver maintainer) but it works fine for me and hopefully for others who are having troubles with some AsanteFast 10/100 NIC cards. But there are no guarantees. Feedback welcome. Hope this helps. Kevin - now back to fixing my Adaptec scsi driver

XFree86 4.1.0 update

Hi, I installed the XFree86 4.1.0 from the RPMs I got from ftp.suse.com. The upgrade is OK, but when I run XFree86 -configure I get a lot of "unresolved symbols" (see attached output). The system is a G4/733MHz with kernel 2.4.12 (compiled with the .config from the SuSE 2.4.2 kernel). The graphics card is the original NVidia card that comes with the computer (I am working to get a supported ATI card). Thanks for any help, S. Schapiro PS: The install went without problems after I circumvented some yast bugs (PC-fdisk instead of pdisk ...) and manually installed yaboot. PPS: It's a pity SuSE doesn't list this computer as supported (without graphics card) since it works all very well (and the 2.4.12 kernel does recognize the NIC unlike the 2.4.2 kernel). linux 7.0 hangs on shutdown.

Hi all, occasionally when I shutdown linux the halt process hangs right after the "turning off swap" message appears.. the process just stops there with a blinking cursor. This does not happen all the time though I can't see any particular pattern occuring. keyboard mapping (newbie)

OK, got 7.1 all installed, but with one thing I cannot solve: how on earth do I get the keys to map correctly? Macintosh Manager

Hi, While messing around in OS9 I found a function called Macintosh Manager in the Multiple Users section. It seems that this can link the workstation to a "Domain Controller (Sorry NT Speak)" and able to authenticate to it It also seems that the only way use this is with Appleshare IP or OS X Server, can this be emulated with Linux, or even running OS 9? Any help would be much appreciated Thanks Marcus Birkin

Remote access to man pages

Hi, My SuSE box is 192.168.1.99 on the LAN, and I can access its documentation from other machines by doing, e.g., http://192.168.1.99/hilfe/noframes/index_e.html http://192.168.1.99/cgi-bin/info2html?(bash)Top (For some reason only the /noframes/ version will come across.) However I can't seem to get the html-ized man pages that way -- for example, this won't work: http://192.168.1.99:6711/man?=bash&=1 Is there a simple change I can make in order to gain access? hysterion

Xfree86 4.1

Hi, I build and installed the 2.4.12 kernel on my feb 2001 iMac. my modem is working now. I also build Xfree86-drm for ATI rage 128 but that crashes with a signal 11. I found however on the Suse ftp site Xfree86 4.1 pre-compiled. What version do I need to download, and will it support the Rage 128 ultra? thanks, Jaap-Jan

Need help to get MACE and D-Link DFE-530TX+ working (Suse 7.1)

I have been struggling too long on this. I have an Apple PowerPC 8550 Workgroup Server (604 processor - beige case). The (built-in to kernel?) MACE driver for the onboard ethernet works under 2.2.18, and that's all. It doesn't seem to be in the standard 2.4.2 kernel?? I can't get a driver to work for the D-Link with either 2.2.18 or 2.4.2. I have downloaded software drivers directly from D-Link as well as tried to use the latest drivers from sylid or whatever. I just want to get this box up and use it for some simple firewall/ masquerading. Sheeh!! Please help. Thanks in advance, Stephen Beck
