First Install SuSE 7.1 PPC on PowerMac4400 / MOUNT ERROR As a Linux newbie (but experienced Mac user) I wonder if there's anybody who can give me some advice when installing SuSE Linux 7.1 PPC on a PowerMac4400 ("Oldworld Mac"), standard system with 2 GB ATA HDD. I did the following so far (following the manual), but keep getting stuck at the "installation preparations"; linuxrc / YaST wants me to set a MOUNTPOINT, but it then keeps giving a MOUNT ERROR -message: (see also : page 25 and 60 of manual)
HDD (2051 MB) configured with Drive setup (v.9.0) to 4 partitions:
A/UX-Root partition (1692 MB). A/UX-Swap partition (96 MB). MacOS Extended partition (32 MB) for Linux Boot. MacOS Extended partition (232 MB) + Mac OS 9.0 installed.
cq. linuxrc gives : swap partition : /dev/hda7 (98304 blocks). "do not partition" (hard drives) (allready did this: DriveSetUp OS 9 mac). CREATING FILESYSTEMS shows : hda6 1732608 4096 no ext2 Apple_UNIX_SVR hda8 32768 no hfs Apple_HFS hda9 236379 no hfs Apple_HFS hda10 5 2048 no ext2 Apple_Free Than I selected the hda6 to set the mountpoint " / " (root) at the hda6 partition,
BUT when I pressed enter to mount this, I got the following error message :
MOUNT ERROR An error occurred mounting the filesystem of partition "/dev/hda8" to the directory "/mnt". Here is the error message of the "mount" command: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda8, or too many mounted file systems. I could choose "repeat again", which I did and the same message appeared again. (I can only choose "abort" now) I even re-partitioned my entire HDD with Drive SetUp and changed the order of the partitions, but I keep getting the same errors at this stage. WHAT can I do now to try to install this Linux at my old mac ? Thanks for any help ;-) Carolus carolus@mac.com
