OK, I've solved my hard disk problem, so I'm back to this. I need to configure XFree86 (version 3.3.6, not 4.x).
Unfortunately, I don't get the choice "Configure XFree86(TM)" in YaST System Administration. I suppose it may have been there in the beta - Fig. 3.17 of the handbook shows such a menu item, but then it says "The X Window System can be configured with different configuration tools" and sends you to Chapter 8, i.e., to that xsfbswitch thing which fails here.
No trace of SaX either on my hard drive, nor in the package list at http://www.suse.de/en/produkte/susesoft/ppc/Pakete/gesamt.html. Looks like they scraped it off in 7.0 PPC...
Can I download it somewhere and install it so as to regain the option? Or can I edit an appropriate config file (which one?) by hand?
The current sax2 for 7.0-ppc can be found here: ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/X/suse70/ Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
