Maybe it is not recognized. Take a look at /proc/scsi/scsi: bash-2.03$ cat /proc/scsi/scsi Attached devices: Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00 Vendor: IOMEGA Model: BETA230 Rev: 2.02 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00 Vendor: EXABYTE Model: EXB-8500 ET5 Rev: 06X0 Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 04 Lun: 00 Vendor: MATSHITA Model: CD-R CW-7503 Rev: 1.06 Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00 Vendor: IOMEGA Model: ZIP 100 Rev: N*32 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 06 Lun: 00 Vendor: FUJITSU Model: M2513EL Rev: 0030 Type: Optical Device ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Is is listed there? Does the entry exist in /dev? Also "dmesg" should give you some clues too. nstx is the "non-rewinding" device entry. The devices should also exist under "stx", where x = 0,1,2 etc. Do the 2 devices have unique SCSI ID's? Stew Benedict On Thu, 21 Dec 2000, Jorge Cambra wrote:
Hi. I've got SuSE 7.0 for PPC installed on my RS/6000 and I have a problem with my second tape drive.
I'm not very skilled on Linux and I don't know how to install a new tape, but with the SuSE installation it is automaticaly.
I can obtain information from the first tape by typing:
mt -t /dev/nst0 status
The second tape ( /dev/nst1) is an external scsi tape and when I try to get the tape status...
mt -t /dev/nst1 status
I get the following error:
mt: /dev/nst1: Device not configured
I don't know how to configure the device. I don't know if it is not configured because it doesn't work property or because I do have to configure it.
Can anybody give me any advice or any website where I can get some help?
Thanks in advance Jorge.
