installation report on a french iMac rev B

I gonna try to summarise the state of my installation of linuxSuSE on my iMac rev B. - Keyboard problem... I started up linuxSuSE cd1 and used the graphical yast2 installer. First it asked me to choose my language, then my keyboard and my timezone. Whatever the keyboard configuration i choose, i could not have anything else than the QWERTY configuration. Under X window i had no real keymap, it was just enough to swap to the console mode and to try to fix it. I used the french iMac keymap available at : http://www.chez.com/bentoi/linuxppc/fr-imac.tar.gz and i modified my XF86Config file, adding XkbDisable and XkbKeymap "usb-fr-macintosh" in the Keyboard section. This work fine ! ... but the XF86Config file is scratched at each linux boot... - Partition problem... I formatted my disk using the MacOS tool, I made 4 partitions : 1/ main hfs+ for programs and system 2/ documents hfs for... you know what... 3/ swap hfs 4/ root hfs I asked Yast2 to mount my partitions 1/ and 2/, and to transform my partitions 3/ and 4/ into linux ones. Current linux kernels dont ship any hfs+ file system driver. SuSE may not ask the user to mount such a partition for the moment. Now each time i boot on MacOS, it ask me if i want to initialize the partitions 3/ and 4/... MacOS shouldn't want to mount these partitions, and it didn't when i installed linuxppc and i used pdisk. I dont know how to fix it. Steph'

now my keyboard doesn't work

Hi, folks: I got SuSE Linux running on an Apple Performa 6400. I looked through the YaST menus, changed something that I thought was trivial (I can't remember what), and now have the following problem: PROBLEM: When I boot up and get the graphical "Welcome to SuSE Linux" dialog box, I can type into the login text box, but when I attempt to type into the password text box, my keystrokes don't appear. I tried typing my password, then hitting the Go! key, but the computer says my password is invalid--so I don't think the computer is "seeing" my keystrokes at all. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: The tab key moves the I-beam cursor between the two fields, and the I-beam cursor *does* appear in the password text box. Also, no messages appear in the console log box in the lower right corner of the screen. I've shutdown, turned off the computer, waited, and tried again--same problem. Can I do anything to correct this, or <sob> should I reinstall Linux from scratch? Thanks. --greggw PS--Has anyone tried tech support (isupport(a)suse.com)? keyboard problems under X using jast 1

i will need to install suse ppc 6.4 using yast 1 (on my mac clone). yast 2 doesnt work on my machine, probably because of the graphics card. the yast 1 installation left me with a system that was mostly fine, only the keymap under X was really really broken. not an american keymap but something really off. i need to know what i have to change after the installation to get my german keyboard to work. anyone got any pointers? lukas

no sound and no apm

Hallo, my problem is how can i get sound and apm working on my ibook. At kernelboot it tells me the dmasound driver is loaded ! And apmd tells me there is no apm in kernel ??! And how can i change the numbers of X colors ? My kernel is an 2.2.16 with apm compiled, and booting with yaboot ! All other works fine. Thanks Harald Jülke P.S. Sorry my english.

iBook problems

I have ordered SuSE 6.4 for PowerPC. My problem is that I can't install the system. I have an iBook with 96 Mb ram, 300 Mhz G3, 3,2 GB HD, 4MB rage pro gfx card. I use system 9.04. I have partition the drive with 3 mac partitions wich one is a linux boot partition with 40 Mb space. Then there is one root partition with 1 GB and a swap with 128 Mb. (done with the apple's partition tool) When I install the folder on the linux boot disk and hold down space bar when I boot, I can see nothing on the screen. When I push enter, it starts too rrrrrr (sign that it is something processing). very funny. I think the onley problem is the gfx. Because when I try BootX, I see everything, the installer etc, but it quits after a while (this is because it is a new world mac and I should'nt use the bootX in the first time.) Tnx in advance.
