But the changelog's purpuse is to tell the user why he should install/update a package.
install: no, that's in the description (and in /usr/share/doc/packages/*/NEWS or /usr/share/doc/packages/*/README) update: yes, you will mention applied (security) patches, etc.
I still do not think users read that at all. I, as a user, carelessly install updates and I really don't care what has changed (I would die if I did every distro upgrade/factory rebuild). Do they really care and why?
No, I completely agree with you. rpm changelogs are a source of info for all of us who are involved in packaging. Tracking general changes in the rpm changelog is a mis-conception.
Yes, they may care in case they monitor if some their issue was resolved, but that info is available elsewhere.
I'm not that sure, or I do not understand what you actually mean. I think referencing bug numbers is something for the rpm changelog. -- Karl Eichwalder SUSE LINUX Products GmbH R&D / Documentation Maxfeldstraße 5 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org
