[opensuse-packaging] debian.conffiles not working?

Hi, I am trying to mark some files as configuration files in Debian packages and created a debian.conffiles file. However, the resulting packages ignore this. For an example see home:sschapiro/rear-snapshot Is there another way how to get DEBs to also mark conf files properly?
