There should be no package iscan or iscan-proprietary-drivers
or iscan-firmware in any of our "official" openSUSE projects.
I filed deleterequests for all those IScan related proprietary
packages, see
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=556097#c9

...

Please retain at least iscan-firmware, many Epson scanners will
not work without it. Without this package the firmware has to be
extracted manually from the Windows driver which is quita a
hassle.

It is much easier to visit the Avasys web site and download
their proprietary packages from them to make Epson scanners
which need proprietary stuff work well under Linux.

No, models like the Epson Perfection 3490/3590 work fine with the
opensource sane snapscan driver, they don't need the epkowa
driver or the iscan application, just the firmware.

I have a 4990 on my desk, and with the installed
iscan-free-2.10.0.1-88.1.i586 on openSUSE 11.2 it works perfectly. So I
hope, this package is not removed.
Bye,
