But not with openSUSE. While I'm normally for diversity, I think one
package manager is enough for the core distribution. Do other

Yes, Debian has both RPM and Alien.
And SUSE has dpkg. I don't talk about that level but about the level of
apt/aptitude, zypper, yum, smart, pacman.
