Packaging is not very easy for everyone and even knowledgable packagers
frequently have to do a lot of work to maintain their packages. If
necessary software isn't available for a distribution, users will go
elsewhere, especially when told "do it yourself" when they make a
simple request.

I am a user, I started packaging stuff that I liked using, at first I
sucked at it(I still make many mistakes), then Gladiac, darix and
other people at #opensuse-buildservice helped fix many mistakes I made
in spec files, now guess what, I "officially" maintain Compiz Fusion
packages for the distribution :). There are other packages that might
never make it into the distro, but would still be available for anyone
who wants to use them.

It really is easy if there is someone to help you and openSUSE Build
Service makes it quite convenient.

Have a lot of fun!
