If they depend on those updated packages, you have no choice - the only other 
choice is to decide not to install the new application!  Multimedia in Linux 
is beginning to pick up pace, and the developers tend to use the latest 
releases of dependent packages.

Oliver, Michael, Edgar, etc at JAD, Pascal the Guru, and the people at Packman 
are doing a very impressive (and communautaire!) job of building out 
multimedia packages for openSUSE - the quality is so good that there is very 
little likelihood of damage to your system.
