Besides that I am also not able to play mp3 in SUSE. It seems that the
players require a plugin to play the mp3 files. Where can I find the
mp3 plugin for SUSE Specific??

That plugin is called xmms-mpg123-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm, after installing it you will be able to play mp3s everywhere.
