On Windows, I prefer IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.net/) which the
last time I checked, was faster, much more robust and supported more
types of files than ACDSee.  Sadly, I haven't found anything that comes
close for Linux.

When I recently upgraded it, I noticed that it is reported to run fine
under Wine, so you may want to give it a try.  I haven't tried it under
Wine myself (preferring not to taint my Linux systems with Windows
software), so I can't vouch for it in that context.
