Make sure you have an audio cable connected from your CD/DVD-ROM to your
sound card.

What desktop environment do you use? If you're using KDE, use amaroK
with RealPlayer plugin to play mp3 files.

This info is useless. Can you give more details? What desktop
environment are you using? What soundcard do you have? How's your
soundcard connect to the computer? PCI or ISA?
