Do I have to try a different gcc version, a few more programs I can't recall right now won't compile either, (I think I also tried vidix-0.9.9.1 and mplayerxp-0.5.1).

If you search with Google, you can find MPlayer-1.0pre7-pm.3.i686.rpm and libmad-0.15.1b-3.1.fc1.fr.i386.rpm and libmp3lame-3.95.1-1.athlon.rpm (of course, if you have another cpu, try that one)
Apparently all three are needed before mplayer is able to load.
But all three can be installed with Yast.
I had some strange trouble with libmp3lame though. Yast could not find it! So I unpacked de library it contains by hand, rename it (remove .0.0), that did the trick.

But my goal was to be able to view my ASF-videos I made with my digital camera. and I have still no luck.

greets
Marc
