Have you tried pulling at the slider(s) in YaST/hardware/sound/volume? I'm not
sure about how those and the ones in KMix relate.
Do you have another PC that you could use for the other end - to verify that
the problem is not at the other end?
I tried Skype a couple months ago from my SuSE 9.2 to a Windows box and got no
complaints. Besides, I'm impressed how well it works - it was just like
talking on a regular phone.
