SuSe 8.0 hangs on sound card init

Folks,
I did a fresh install of SuSe 8.0 on a new MicronPC
Millenia XP+ machine (AMD). This has the nForce 420
chip set which contains the MCP (media & communication
processor) and APU (audio processor unit).
After Yast2 installs it tells me the sound card was
detected and configured just fine. Next Yast reboots
my PC to finish installation and that goes perfectly.
However, the next time I do a reboot, my PC hangs
at the start sound card step.
Any idea how to fix this?
