Hi!
Make sure you have a correct /dev/video0 file (major 81, minor
0), and bttv module in /etc/modules.conf file (alias
char-major-81 bttv). If all of it is there, try to force the
module load by modprobe bttv
and then try again with the xawtv. Check also that your Pc has
no other capture device like a webcam or so...
