Does your machine resume immediately? This happens here on HP 
NX9420.

Do you find in /var/log/messages something like
...
Apr 11 21:31:42 klnrarndt kernel: swsusp: Need to copy 122307 pages
Apr 11 21:31:42 klnrarndt kernel: swsusp: Not enough free memory
Apr 11 21:31:42 klnrarndt kernel: Error -12 suspending
...
Google provides some results for this errormessage. Until now I've 
spend no time to resolve the problem, I shutdown the system.

Regarding Your german thread: I have also installed propietary ATI 
driver.
