Cardbus SD-Karten-Leser von Texas Instruments

Hallo,
ich habe ein Problem den SD-Karten-Slot in meinem Notebook anzusprechen.
Schiebe ich eine SD-Karte in den Steckplatz, passiert exakt nichts.
Schauen wir mal mit lspci nach was für einen Chipsatz drinsteckt.
sudo /sbin/lspci -v | grep Texas
0000:02:02.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB21 IEEE-1394a-2000

OK, es ist ein Cardreader von Texas Instruments. Und eine Firmaware will das
Teil haben.
Ein grep yenta auf boot.msg gibt folgendes aus:

Die wenigen Informationen die ich über Google gefunden habe [1] lassen
vermuten, daß sich das Teil nicht vollständig verwenden lassen wird.
Hat jemand vielleicht andere Erfahrungen mit diesem Chipsatz gemacht?
