Exakt hier lag das Problem. ein einfaches umbenennen der Datei

        /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-pcmcia

nach

        /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan-pcmcia

hat die Loesung gebracht.
