I'am currently using Suse 7.2 on a Tecra 8000 and had lots of problems to get 
the sound working. Finally I was able to get it working using the following 
commands:

modprobe soundcore
modprobe sound
modprobe mpu401
modprobe ad1848 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0
modprobe opl3 io=0x388

which I added to the rc boot files.

Even the info provided by Suse and on the linux for laptop site I was not able 
to use this info succesfully. Also the standard tools, like yast2, alsoconf 
did not work out.
