Hello List!
I have a "problem" once more... Somehow the initalization of the system has a minor bug. I use SuSE 7.1 Pro, and the situation is as follows: I have en ethernet-adapter in my pcmcia-slot, by which I connect to the LAN at my office or my private desktop at home. Fact is, that the DHCP-client is started BEFORE pcmcia is started, so, logically, DHCP won't find eth0. How can I change the order of module-loading or what is concerned by this problem?

Just change the index-number in /sbin/init.d/rc2[3].d/S(XX)dhcp to a number bigger than /sbin/init.d/rc2[3].d/S(YY)pcmcia If you use SCHEMES with your pcmcia-card you can add the following in /etc/pcmcia/network.opts at the right SCHEME:
Apart from comments others gave on PCMCIA calling dhcp: SuSE 7.1 uses the info between ### BEGIN INIT INFO and ### END INIT INFO for generating these numbers automatically. If you edit the link names in etc/init.d/rc[23].d by hand they will be overwritten next time you run insserv on /etc/init.d/ If you want to make dhcp dependant on pcmcia by hand (which I think you should not) you want to add pcmcia in the /etc/init.d/dhcp script and rerun insserv to generate the correct dependancy numbers.
