You are missing an entry in /etc/pcmcia/config. Have a look at this file
an read
-> "man pcmcia" and
-> "/usr/doc/packages/pcmcia/PCMCIA-HOWTO: 6. Dealing with unsupported
cards"

you can remove this link if you don't use a modem via the serial line. The
proper link will be set up by /etc/pcmcia/serial when you insert the card
and removed again when you eject it.
