While we're at the subject of statistics, here are some stats about the number of people visiting the sites of openSUSE, Fedora and Ubuntu. Ubuntu is ranked first, openSUSE comes in second and Fedora is currently third. I'm not sure how they do their metrics, so take it for what it's worth. http://siteanalytics.compete.com/opensuse.org+ubuntu.com+fedoraproject.org/ Pieter 2011/3/12 Jos Poortvliet <jospoortvliet@gmail.com>:
I will push an article about this soon, but just FYI:
openSUSE has done EXTREMELY WELL with the 11.4 release! So everyone, stand up, give yourself a pat on the back - because this is your work!
Not just the hard work in the last 2-3 weeks, but also the work you have been doing as ambassadors around the world. Telling people about openSUSE is extremely important!!!
Some numbers: well over 100.000 people have downloaded 11.4 within the first 24 hours! That is almost twice as many as 11.3!!!!!
over 12.500 used bittorrent, over 90.000 via download.opensuse.org - and we're not counting those who upgraded by themselves or used susestudio.com!!!
Awesome work ;-)
I also had a look at our openSUSE statistics on opensuse.org/Statistics. Surprisingly, openSUSE is about 50% larger than fedora - I would've expected them to be bigger in terms of users... Compare for yourself at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Statistics I wish Ubuntu would have numbers somewhere, they quoted between 6 and 8 million in the past (which makes them about as big as openSUSE) And I was thinking all that time openSUSE was lucky to be in the top-3 of distro's... But in reality, my friends, openSUSE is bigger than Fedora and might very well be bigger than Ubuntu!!
Feel free to tell others about that ;-)
Cheers and enjoy your weekends, you deserve it! Hugs, Jos
