Wow... I always thought that the vast majority of the Linux community
used GNOME or KDE, but clearly LXDE can't be neglected ;-)

Here's a low-res preview of the updated poster:

I'll repackage posters.zip and slides.zip asap. (If the modification
timestamp on top of the download page still reads "Updated Feb 15", I
haven't updated the ZIP yet.)

I'm biased because I'm an LXDE user. It's a great desktop - it has a
feel more like Gnome, complete and not too minimal, but light enough

It's the default for the popular Knoppix live CD and is the
(unnoffician?) Ubuntu Lite desktop in Lubuntu.

Certainly we don't want to crowd things, but if it can be done neatly,
by all means include LXDE.

+1 for LXDE. It's a fast moving project, having just been added in 11.3.
IMO Xfce has lost its way, being now nearly the same memory footprint as
Gnome.

Hi Stuart,

Listing four environments would be overkill if you ask me. I've
followed the rule of threes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_three_(writing)

This is by no means objectively measurable, but to me it just feels
right to list three environments instead of two or four.

Here's what I'm suggesting: if there's reasonable proof that LXDE is
more popular and more active than Xfce, I'll replace the mention of
Xfce with LXDE. But I can't make everyone happy and keep the ad
relatively easy to read at the same time. (If there's a majority that
wants to see LXDE added, I'll change it of course.)

Pieter

Dear Pieter

Is it possible to add LXDE also after XFCE?

I know we can go on for ever, but I am building a specific project
around
LXDE, using LDM as a login manager on thin clients running kiwi-ltsp
onnection
to a server which then runs a remote x desktop with KDE?

Kind Regards,
Stuart

I've updated posters.zip and slides.zip to include the new version.
Download links remain the same. You should see "Updated Feb 15,
2011" at the top of the download page.

Hi Kostas,

Here you go, these are the Scribus source files:
http://www.box.net/shared/czxins0f8y

I'm going to remove that file from the server in a few days, so
make
sure that you save it. (I want to retain some control over who
uses the source files.)

As mentioned earlier in this thread, the "desktop environment" ad
is
still subject to change. I'll update it when I have the time, but
you
can use the current version if you want. Just keep in mind that
openSUSE lets you choose from multiple desktop environments at
install, not just KDE and GNOME as stated on the poster.

Hi Pieter
I think I answered you at marketing list but in case I did not
;-s ,
today (in less than an hour) we have the Meeting of the Greek
community and I will give them to people to translate and fix
them,
when it will be ready I will send you a copy to have it in your

These are awesome, Pieter. I just noticed one minor thing on
the

desktop poster: users can select from the following

desktop choices at setup without having to select software
packages:
Gnome, KDE, LXDE, XFCE, TWM, or text-only (unless the
installer has
changed a lot since 11.3). http://goo.gl/RDZwo

Woah, openSUSE continues to amaze me... I must have missed that
when I
installed my system. Those options are still there, apparently:

I'll let you know when the updated poster and slide ZIPs are
ready.

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, I shared drafts of some openSUSE posters I
made. I
finalized the posters tonight.

I've made a total of six posters on various subjects:
- openSUSE's stable/tumbleweed repositories
- The community
- YaST
- The fact that openSUSE lets you choose KDE or GNOME during
setup
- Driver installs (or the lack thereof)
- SUSE Studio: roll your own Linux distribution

I've zipped up all posters and you can download 'em here:
http://www.box.net/shared/hxllbeglvc

Helen asked me if I wanted to make some slides for SCALE, so
I made
16:9 widescreen versions of these posters. You can get the
slides
here:

@Kostas: Here is the source of one of the posters. Can you
test if
you can open it (with correct fonts and images)? If so, I'll
upload
the other five posters so that you can translate them to
Greek.
http://www.box.net/shared/hfmvz1dxeu

I've added myself to the marketing mailing list, so
hopefully I
won't miss any replies now.

Cheers,
Pieter De Decker
