I'm now testing openSUSE 11.0 alpha3 I found that embeddedbitmap in fontconfig seem not working for kde 4.x
According to /etc/fonts/suse-bitmaps.font, embedded bitmaps should be enabled by default for all CJK fonts, *except* the Japanese IPA fonts because these have only very few embedded bitmaps. I have just tried this with /usr/bin/qtconfig (from Qt4) and /usr/lib/qt3/bin/qtconfig (from Qt3) using the font FZSongTiand found that you are right, embedded bitmaps are ignored in Qt4 even if enabled in the fontconfig setup. But they are used in Qt3. I think this is a bug.
I have to set antialias to use embeddedbitmap fonts and no bold face for Chinese character.
Your are right, this doesn’t work either in qtconfig of Qt4 or Qt3
and it doesn’t work either in the KDE3 control centre (kcontrol).
Only regular and italic are selectable. Of course fonts like FZSongTi
have only regular, but italic and bold can be “faked” by freetype2
as one can easily verify by using:
xfd -fa "FzSongTi:size=12:weight=200"
Therefore I don’t understand either why Qt doesn’t allow bold here.
I’ll enter bugreports in the Novell bugzilla so this doesn’t get lost.
