Canna is a server and I don't want to run unused servers.
There is scim-canna for Canna users, so I want to remove
canna from UIM.
I know most users choose Anthy for Japanese input,
and they don't want to install Canna for UIM.
uim-{pinyin,hangul,viqr} are not well tested.
I think they should be covered by uim-m17nlib.
You know m17nlib includes pinyin/hangul/viqr engines, and
Handa-san (the author of m17nlib) is a cool developer.
Tokunaga-san replaced uim-py with the m17nlib based pinyin
in uim-0.5.0.

I think this one is better for SUSE 10.1:
uim-module-manager --register anthy m17nlib skk

Personally I prefer SCIM, but we should be fair to UIM.
[OT] Current UIM project status
Stable branch: maintained by Tokunaga-san.
SigScheme branch: maintained by Kazuki.
SigScheme is a fast and light scheme interpreter.
It's good for embedded Linux.

Development branch: maintained by Yamaken.
He is trying to improve UIM itself. SigScheme will be merged into
this branch.
I think uim-qtimmodule is good for Japanese and
uim-xim shows the candidates in better places, but
the developers seem to lack interest in cool GUI and usability.
Thanks.
