I put great hopes into this program. Two problems appear for me:
1.During installation I get the message that the library "libeb.so.6" would be missing on the system. Where could I get this library?
From the package eb.rpm on your SuSE 9.0 CDs or from the SuSE 9.0 FTP version:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.0/suse/i586/eb-3.3.4-23.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.0/suse/i586/ebdev-3.3.4-23.i586.rpm
2.How will I be able to get my databases down from the electronic book to use them on the deskop? Is it after all possible without special hardware?
The electronic book CDs are "normal" CDs. They may be a bit smaller to
fit into the standalone electronic book-reader devices, but you
can put them into your CD-ROM drive and mount them just like any other
CD. Then you can copy the contents to some directory on your harddisk
if you like.
The only free dictionaries in electronic book format I know of are a
converted version of Ulrich Apel's German/Japanese dictionary
WaDoKUJT, available here as a SuSE rpm:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/wadoku-fpw-1.1-0.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-src/wadoku-fpw-1.1-0.src.rpm
and the English/Japanese "intelligent" dictionary files
of the FOKS project which are based on Jim Breen's EDICT (see also
http://www.foks.info/index.html), available here as a SuSE rpm:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/foks-fpw-1.1-0.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-src/foks-fpw-1.1-0.src.rpm
It doesn't matter whether these dictionary rpms are built for 8.2 or 9.0.
