Quite a while ago there was a thread about a Pinyin input method for Chinese which is smarter than the the one included in xcin. SCIM has such a smart Pinyin input method. Packages for SCIM (``Smart Common Input Method platform'') are now available for SuSE Linux 8.2: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-config-gconf-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-config-simple-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-config-socket-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-devel-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-frontend-socket-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-frontend-x11-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-gtk2-immodule-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-server-rawcode-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-server-socket-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-i586/scim-server-table-0.5.1-0.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-noarch/scim-tables-ja-0.2.2-0.noarch.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-noarch/scim-tables-ko-0.2.2-0.noarch.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-noarch/scim-tables-zh-0.2.2-0.noarch.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-src/scim-0.5.1-0.src.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mfabian/8.2-src/scim-tables-0.2.2-0.src.rpm More information about SCIM can be found on it's home page at http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/index.html Basic usage instructions are here: http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/document.html To make SCIM start automatically when your X11 session is started in a simplified Chinese locale (i.e. when the effective value of LC_CTYPE starts with zh_CN), just download the following file http://www.suse.de/~mfabian/misc/xim and copy it to ~/.xim. The "Smart Pinyin input method" for SCIM is not open source but binary rpm-packages can be downloaded from http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/download.html The package build for UnitedLinux 1.0 also works for SuSE Linux 8.2 and also for SLD: http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/scim-chinese/scim-chinese-0.2.3-1ul1... -- Mike Fabian <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。
